Public & Private Schools As an ongoing commitment and service to our Community, the club offers Archeology, Lapidary, Geology, and Paleontology instruction to all local public and private schools in our community, bases on availability of instructors. Locally we offer these programs through our KidsFirst© program in cooperation with a national organization, Youth Outdoors Unlimited (YOU). If you have experience or training that your would like to share, we would be glad to have your assistance. This is a valuable program to any community. Classes Instructional classes are offered by most clubs in the arts of Lapidary, including the our club. Classes are usually offered every week, based on requests and availability of instructors and equipment. Class length and meeting times are generally set by the instructor, and vary dependent upon the class. A nominal fee is charged for most classes to cover the cost of operating the facility and is generally in the area of between $2.00 to $5.00 for the individual class. Some classes require the student to purchase consumables, generally available through the club, instructor, or at the class. Monthly Guest Speakers/Demonstrators At the end of each monthly General Meeting we usually have a guest speaker/demonstrator who will offer us instruction on activities related to our club members interests. Field Trips Throughout the year most well established Clubs will organize trips to places for collecting rocks and specimens. Generally these trips are to areas within a few hours drive from your community. However, many clubs will schedule field trips in corporation with other Lapidary Clubs. Our club for example, schedules trips as far away as Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, and California to explore new region that are known to have high grade minerals suitable for use in lapidary. Library Most Lapidary Clubs have a large library of training and instruction manuals and videos to loan to club members and the local educational community. If you have items that you would like to see included in the Club library please let the Liberian know. | |
